Historic & Archival Music Supervision & Customization
WalkWest provides music supervision, consultation & customization for all types of media, whether broadcast, web-based, or live performance. It is uniquely positioned to conduct searches for archival recordings that suit the needs of the medium & message at hand, editing or re-casting them as needed, and facilitating any licensing arrangements that need to be made.
“A Yankee Clipper In Congo Square” – the album featured on this website – was put together with that purpose in mind. After assembling a collection of one-of-a-kind historic recordings, field recordings made by legendary collectors such as Alan Lomax & Herbert Halpert in the 1920’s – 1950’s, WalkWest then ‘re-composed’ and reconstructed these unique performances into something brand new.
By editing, sequencing, arranging, & mixing these historic recordings with newly composed samples & live recordings, WalkWest creates a highly visual, evocative & modern brand of music that is able to enlarge the scope of any media to which it is attached.
WalkWest is one of the first music companies to ‘recast’ historic field & commercial recordings in the way that it does – to not just sample or re-mix – but to re-configure these historic performances as new compositions.
The WalkWest Sample Library used to create this album was compiled by recording world-class musicians performing distinctly ‘American’ musical styles & genres that call to mind specific regions & time periods of American music.
This private & unique sample library now provides the foundation for all future WalkWest productions. It offers thousands of well-defined audio images upon which to quickly build a piece of music that has strong cultural relevance. This wide-open arranging & production style immediately heightens the appeal & reach of any media to which it is attached.
